Eifel-Blick - "Steling" in Monschau-Mützenich
Monschau
At 658 meters above sea level, the Steling is the highest elevation in the Aachen region. The excellent visibility was the reason why there was even a fire watch tower on the Steling. The view extends far to the east over the Eifel National Park. The forest and open land areas of the former Vogelsang military training area, which has been accessible to visitors as part of the Eifel National Park since 2006, are clearly visible. Behind it lies the wooded ridge of the Kermeter, another "heart" of the national park. In the foreground, numerous hedgerows run through the "Monschau Heckenland". In the past, they were used to fence the properties and have protected fields and grazing cattle from strong westerly winds since time immemorial. The Steling is also the highest point on the Eifelsteig long-distance hiking trail. Simply park your car in Monschau-Mützenich on the hiking car park "Im Brand". From there follow the signs for "Steling".
